I need two local area DPCers to volunteer to act at group liason people. You will be responsible for making sure your group of 10-15 DPCers all make it to the various events, helping me make sure we don't lose anyone, and providing a source of local expertise for folks visiting from out of town.
You need to know DC well enough to be comfortable with answering questions like, "how do I get from point A to point B" or "Why shouldn't I take the Green Line to Anacostia at night carrying my 2k worth of camera gear".
You will need to be able to committ to going the full length of the night shoot. If you are interested, drop me a PM and let me know. :) |

Although there is room for everyone, I do need an accurate count of who will be at dinner. I would hate to run out of food or wine....

It depends on what time dinner is -- I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. I likely can't take off work on Friday completely, but I could manage to leave sometime after noon (but Friday traffic from Va Beach to DC is probably awful). Still don't know if I can go yet! Soon. :) |

Clara has the full itinerary in the Notacon thread, but here is the info on the dinner
Friday: Arrival Day. No specific shooting plans for the day. Dinner at Steve's at 6pm. I strongly urge everyone get there earlier. Driving 270 at rush is just not fun. Dinner concludes at 9. This is because the Terry contingent has a 2 hour drive back to PA, and we have a ton planned for Saturday.

EDIT: Quick-draw Barbara!
Is Steve's place west of Bethesda?

Steve's place is well west of Bethesda. He's right near where Interstate 270 ends, at its intersection with Interstate 70 and US Route 15. Bethesda to Frederick is a 45 minute drive in optimal conditions, significantly longer at rush hour.

Does JPR know this? Last I checked, you were his ride.
Also, if you are coming down Saturday afternoon you will want to drive directly to DC and not to my apartment, as I will already be in DC by that time.
You do still have a place to sleep at my apartment, you'll just need to follow me back.

I'm still in the process of checking with my friends about Friday night and also I don't think we'll have a car and are staying at a different hotel from the group and it looks to be about an hour drive ( I have no idea what it would be with traffic) so we may not make it to the dinner. But I should know for sure in the next couple of days. :-)

Not sure about dinner Friday night yet. We will be meeting up with some friends sometime during the weekend so I'm just waiting to see what the itinerary looks like before I make plans with them. |
Jen,
Be aware that Embassy Row is not particularly close to ANY Metro station. You should probably check on the availability of cabs or a hotel shuttle to/from the nearest Metro station.

Really?! That blows. :-( One of the reason we picked it was because it seemed close to the monuments AND it seemed to be on or near a metro line based on the info from their website. Hmmmm, guess we'll be cabbing it then.
Edited to add: Thanks for the heads up Terry! :-)

It's actually not that far from Dupont Circle. Not right next door, but walkable. Besides, that part of DC is very nice anyway. |

Isn't there a Hyatt in the direction of the zoo that's directly on the Metro line? |

The only reason we're staying at a Hilton is because we have Hilton points we can use so we get our room for free. :-) Otherwise we'd be staying where everyone else is.

It's a nice hotel. Stayed there in March for a conference. Dupont is walkable...but still 3 blocks down...and 3 blocks UP on return. So be prepared with appropriate footware.
Dupont has wonderful dining if you get the chance. But do know that the mall in not really walking distance from the hotel. On the other hand, I hoofed it to the zoo and back one morning before my sessions began--it's about a mile, I think. |

from the other thread.
(i'm not sure why we needed a 2nd thread for this, but that will answer your question)
Originally posted by blemt: Saturday: We have three planned AM events starting at 9am.
1) National Zoo
2) National Mall area (Smithsonian, Monuments durning Day)
3) Downtown DC (A walkaround the DC metro area exploring various nooks and crannies. Includes the Navy Memorial, White House, Ford's Theater)
Everyone gets to pick one from the menu. :) Remember that Saturday is going to be a very, very long day. The AM event will end by 2pm. From 2 until 5:30 I STRONGLY urge naptime. If you miss naptime I'm gonna have no sympathy for you at 3am. :)

Barb is cooking us ALL dinner on Friday, plus we need to know grouping for staurday night so we dont miss anything...
If you wish to come to the dinner, or go say how many are coming only.. discussion on this to the other thread.
It is important that we know how many are comign toi dinner so someone doesn't go hungry or we have too much food (thats a waste plus a lot fo people are on budgets) |
