lol I know, but it's one thing to know it and another to actually see it. There's quite a difference. To a bear or shark, or whatever, food is food...but most of their food doesn't have families that will mourn them.

I just want to clarify that I didn't take these shots. They appeared in our local paper last week. I thought it would be a funny thing to share. Again, not my shots (even though they are amazing!)

Those are indeed fantastic shots.

I do however fear that this poor animal may have to pay a very high price for foraying into spaces occupied by humans. People fear bears (justifiably so) and sooner or later the authorities will take care of the matter.

If the bear is very fortunate, it will be relocated to the woods... if not then .....death. That would be rather sad.

From the Alaska Dept of Fish and Game web site:

In light of the rising frequency of human - grizzly bear conflicts, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert of bears while in the field.

We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity.

Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear & grizzly bear excrement. Black bear excrement is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear excrement has little bells in it and smells like pepper.

You should see what they can do to a 2-man tent should you have food in there.
