A simple search could've answered this, but I'll go ahead and do it. Yes - they're probably #1 in photography sales in the nation.

BhPhoto ResellerRatings. Probably the most recommending store to do business with in the DPC Community.

Out of all fairness, Beach Camera has an even higher reseller rating. But you're right, B&H is usually the store of choice - especially for their large variety of stock.

and for the items i've researched, their prices are usually in the top-10 lowest, as well. |

That too :) - their prices are usually quite competitive. I only go with others if the price difference is significant (and only if it is a reputable site). I wish they had sales sometimes :P

yeah, but 'they' claim their prices are 'sales' prices, and if you want to haggle, usually the best you can do is to get them to give you free shipping ;-) |

Didn't know that - maybe I'll have to ask them about it next time (although I don't see why they'd budge for me).. thanks for the tip!

I purchased all my lens from B&H. Great company to deal with, quick, polite, courteous, and answered all my questions without trying to get me off the phone. You can place an order online or over the phone with them. I placed my order over the phone. He explained warranty in detail and even offered lens suggestions. As far as I'm concerned I will purchase from B&H every time unless something better comes along.

you would be surprised...don't just order over the net--call them. when you are just about to place the order, ask them if that's the best they can do. if you've seen a price lower somewhere else, but you want to buy from b&h, tell them you are on the fence. you never know.
along these lines, when i bought some stuff from abes a couple years ago, i found it cheaper at another store after i had received it. when i called them up to return it, they credited me the difference plus some. |

hm - interesting. good point - i always figured they wouldn't pricematch, but i guess they might if you can cite a reputable place with a cheaper price.
also surprised that you've said that about abe's of maine.. i remember someone here having a really bad experience with them (but i suppose that could happen with any service).

I have seen some sales at the store here in NY (my office is across the street). Nothing in the way of 'Clearance!' or holiday discounts, but they do advertise a few discounted items in the windows.
Problem is, you might get a good deal but add in the 8.625% sales tax and .. bleeaaahh.

I can see why the question would be asked though:
If you go to B&H via Pricewatch/Pricegrabber/etc. and read their reviews, you'll see a huge number of positive reviews. However, if you reverse the list and look at the 1-star reviews, you'll find at least a hundred reviews stating that B&H tried to pull a "bait & switch" scam on them, or offered a great price on the camera, but tried to sell the accessories that already came in the box, or cancelled the person's order if they didn't agree to buy accessories with the camera, etc.
I looked at a dozen online stores when I was in the market for my Rebel, and most had the same types of reviews. I had no way of knowing if they were true, so I didn't take the risk and just bought the camera locally.

I have used B&H almost exclusevely for all my camera gear over the years. Never have they pulled a bait-and-switch with me.
... for what it's worth. :) |

It's worth a lot!! Had I known that, I could have saved about $100 on the cost of my camera. I'll try them in the future. Thank you! |

I think it says a lot about the company that they've bothered to respond to all of these negative reviews.
I, too, have used B&H exclusively and been nothing but satisfied. |

I use B&H exclusivly, and have for 11 years. I have had nothing but EXCELLENT service, and super fast delivery. IMHO, they are hands down the best and have very competetive prices, and affordable shipping.

I use either B&H or Adorama, depending on which one has the stuff I want in stock at the time. Their prices and service are the same, but I like B&H's web site better, so I usually order from them if they have the stuff, which they almost always do. However, I recently bought a $1400 lens and a bunch of other stuff from Adorama because some of the items were back-ordered at B&H. Right now I'm waiting for another delivery from B&H. I ordered a Canon Rebel XT and some other items and it's supposed to arrive today.

B&H is wonderful, both online and in the store. It's overwhelming to say the least!! But they have sales people in almost every aisle and behind the counters.

B&H is terrific. Great sales, service and prices. And not just when you are buying stuff - when returning it as well. A year or so ago I ordered a backpack that was not to my liking; just did not feel comfortable. I called B&H and got a return RMA number with absolutely no hassles. A lot of the time the true measure of a company is what happens when you want to return something. Anyone can sell the stuff. |
