Having some problems w my 20D in certain light situations.
IE quite harsh daylight or shooting against a bright lightsource. First of all I get an unacceptable noise level in the shadow areas.
Here is an example of 100% unedited crop in a shadow area that is supposed to be a dark and smooth metal surface  (Shot with 100 ISO) It almost looks like some type of grid pattern in those areas.
Secondly, when I try to darken or brighten those areas I'm getting posterized zones.
The image itself is correctly exposed,but I feel that the look straight out of the camera is rather bland, thats why I would like to push it a little. I can apply neat image or gaussian blur in certain areas, and this would take care of the noise, but I still get the clipping problems.
I have also tried all kinds of RAW software, but nothing really takes care of it.
Am I the only one having these problems?
How do you guys solve harsh light conditions like these. Would a superior lens make a big difference? Is there some type of software that I'm not aware of?
I am aware of ND filters and Polarizers.. but also is there another camera technique to deal with this?
