I just about gave myself a heart attack on the way home. To set the stage: I work at an Advertising Agency. They get me to shoot portraits for the web site. We have a new batch of employees, and I had to haul my gear (10D, a couple lenses) in to work today. And, I ride a motorcycle.
On the way home, I look in my rear-view mirror to merge onto one of the two most horrendous exchanges on the DC Beltway: where Rte 95 North splits off from the outer loop. Of course, it helps to merge if you're going REALLY FAST.
I notice a tiny flicker of motion in the mirror that *shouldn't be there*. I lift my arm and look down at my camera bag and notice that the buckle isn't snapped shut, and as I reach down to snap it, my camera starts rolling out of the top! I clamp down on it with my left hand, frantically move over to the shoulder, hit the kill switch, and shudder to a stop in 5th gear because my clutch-operating hand's a little busy at the moment. ;)
I normally store it with the lens down, and it had rolled far enough out that when I stopped, the lens was pointing outward, and the LCD was against the outside of the bag. Fortunately, it was still under the flap of the top, which I think saved it.
Like the sub line says... Ooooh Maaaah GAWD! I think I'd have a hard time explaining that one to the wife.
Oh, yeah, here's a link to the site. It's a flash site, so I can't give a direct link. Click on "The Agency", then click "The People" -- the portraits are behind the links for each division.
