Hey guys,

I'm trying to find good tutorials about how to properly use those honeyComb Diffusing Grids. All i come up with in Google are explanation of what they do, but not how to properly use them.

Anyone has comments or experience concerning those tools? Any Tutorial links?

I'm really interested!

Thanks

I've heard about those things. Not exactly sure what they're for though

they will allow you to focus light in a more concentrated area when firing your strobes. Say your subject is lit 99% the way you want them to be lit but moy want a touch more light raking across the folds in their dress just below the hip, grid one of your strobes and aim it in the area your wanting to increase the lighting.

We used them in my lighting class last year and they were really cool actually. I normally don't like accessories/gels/blah but the honey combs (in different sizes and shapes) were pretty neat.

I have honey combs and snoots for my Strobs and Grids for my softboxes. They are very useful to help compose and control the lightbeam.

Salut Gil,

I'm on the verge of purchasing from AlienBees.

After much deliberation and lots of good ideas and suggestions from my good friend _armadildo_ and Drjones, I've been looking a lot into those Grids.

I plan on purchasing 2 or 3 SB400 strobes and equip them with Grids and/or Sofbox (most probably 1 softbox and the others with grids.

Alien bees make no sense if you're in montreal (canada actualy) because many stores (like Lauzeau and Photservice) sell OPUS-PRO...which are knock-offs of Profoto strobs... they have 500w/s and 250w/s and their heads have all the same controls.. Strob intensity,Warming intensity (seperate!) optical or cabled and Master/slave... they are vefry very good..and the recycle time is about 2sec for 100%.

Opus even makes an imitation PocketWizard!

That being said...Opus as a kit that comes with Umbrellas, Barndoors, Snoots and HoneyCombs!

Look into it.

Bonne chance!

Well i looked into it (OPus), but everyone keeps telling me Alienbees is better, and its actually cheaper to buy those (shipped to montreal) then to go with Opus of same quality... Unless you know a place i don't know about.
