Good thing you didn't post him in the "Macro II" contest. After about 50 others, I think the voters were getting "dragonfly shell shock".

Good pics, a little washed out, though. Maybe a little levels adjustment?

Macro shots should have all the necessary characteristics that any other shot should have. Such as careful focus (deep or not - depends), light, composition and so on...

While the first shot has some composition and a sense of movement, it's out of focus or it's blurred by motion, and it seems to have blown highlights. The second one is more in focus, but it's in the wrong place, and the composition is, let's say, strange.

I know it's hard to take shots like this, believe me, i do. But still...

A good man once told me that newbies like me shouldn't even bother with macro before we master other types of photography, and i tend to agree with that statement.

All above is my extremely subjective and biased opinion.
