i was reading the news today and i find it annoying that people would blame everything and anything except themself when things dont go the way they wanted it.
//channels.netscape.com/ns/homerealestate/feature.jsp?story=worstfastfoods&floc=HR-1_T
This is about the fast food industry and it just made me recall the case where someone sued a fastfood chain for him being obese. I think its utter crap. So when will it before I can sue God for creating idiots that somehow made my life miserable? |

The issue will be whether the corporation engaged in fraud with this person's obesity as a result.
For example, if your favorite burger place posts a sign saying that their standard burger-n-fries special has 26 grams of fat, and it turns out on independent analysis that it is really 58 grams of fat, you'd have every right to sue them for making you obese.
If their advertising encourages you to eat their meal every day, when such a plan would clearly violate USDA healthy nutrition guldelines, you might have a case against them.
People should be held reponsible for their own actions, but only if those decisions are based on reasonably accurate and unobfuscated information.

I don't know if I can agree with you completely, GeneralE. I do, in principle; fraud is fraud. But to blame your obesity on fast food is nuts, even if the packaging is marked wrong.
Does anyone seriously go to Burger King (or the like), get a triple cheeseburger with fries (supersize that) with a DIET Coke, read the label and say "Oh, cool, only 26 grams of fat, I can live on these things"?
At what point does one look at oneself in the mirror and say "Damn, my a$$ is getting fat!! Maybe I should lay off the cheeseburgers"?

I don't know if their data (fast food joints) is faulty. But even if you take the most conservative numbers that they give you on their websites, its just obscene who much fat and calories are in most meals.
That being said, many people don't really have to worry about the cholesterol, the blood pressure and the blood sugar...I think alot of it is hereditary.
I have to look at everything, my G/F can eat what ever she wants. |

Advertising made me buy things I couldn't afford with money I didn't have. I'm suing. |

i wanna sue nokia for making me miss an important call and thus failed to seal a 2 million dollar contract.
for a case study:
Nokia claims my phone model and battery combination would have at least 3 hours of talktime, but I went flat at 2 hours after charging, so can i sue them?
in all aspect, i feel its absurb and people are just trying to make money out from loopholes in the law system. the law n system is meant to protect the average people is now being made into a money making scheme. its sad.
have anyone read about the lawsuit from some crap who claims the NASA blowing a crater on the asteroid has spoilt his horoscope (or his kitchen sink)? while i'm not saying i agree with NASA's action or anything, i felt that the lawsuit was utter crap, and clearly an attempt to get either fame or money. sick

After reading that article it brought my favorite bumper sticker to mind. Seen it on the back of a truck here.
Guns create criminals like spoons create people of size.
Ok it wasn't exactly that way I was just being politically correct. Didn't want to get flamed like the last time when I refered to people elder than myself in the wrong manner.

That's the good ol' American litigious spirit! After all, if we don't keep all those lawyers employed, they might start suing us! |

*laughs* Unfortunately, my HDD on my main computer went down, otherwise I would love to post image that I took about 6 months ago.
I kid you not, went to laudromat to wash quilts in big machines, where I came upon signs posted to them.
Do not put people in these machines!
Doesn't it just make you wonder why they feel there is need to post that?! ;-)
Thanks for bringing a small laugh on this very sad day.

The law is not an utter ass: there are some restrictions (in the UK at least) on what you can recover, and there has been a couple of centuries' legal debate on it (law of causation) and philosophically a few millennia's debate. The gist is that you can only recover for losses for the type of loss you describe if they are reasonably foreseeable to the negligent party.
As for that asteroid - I am collecting names from anyone who can give me details of something bad that has happened to them since that day for a group action... the fees alone would make me rich! |

This reminds me....On the news last night they said a lady is suing NASA for shooting the probe or whatever into the comet. She says it through off her horoscope and wants $300 million. Did anyone else see this? |

why wouldnt the creator of the font be responsable for the ad that mislead a person, what if the misleading statement was bold yellow, wouldnt the color yellow be as much to blame?

Perhaps you should watch Supersize Me. It's a fascinating documentary about fast food in general and McDonald's in particular.
The official website is a little hard on the eyes (damned bright colors!), but I urge you to visit.
supersizeme.com
The documentary has got to be the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. You've got to watch it.
