The 3-d aspect is terrific.

Pedro - your image link doesn't work for me. (I'll try your profile in a minute)
Jacko - That is one great Yellow Striped Sparrow!! Sweet!
Steve - very solid shot. Focus is on the money. Was it "hanging" there or flying by? (curious, but the flying by would have been harder)

O.K. here's my simple bird shot (sorry about the grass in it's beak, it wouldn't let me remove it!)

Cool. Where were you when you took it? Standing still? On a hang glider? Levitating? ;-)

Swash, that is not a coot -- that is a rare Osteranius Biscuspidus, indigenous to the Amazon basin. There are very unstable, as birds go, and have been known to attack both small animals and humans.
This poor creature must have been caught in a Northerly jet stream, which brought it to your area.

These are coots--but you can hardly tell. I happened to see one close up.

Actually, I got lots of bird shots this day. The wind was blowing really hard, which made all the birds fly just a little slower into the wind. I'm standing on the Huntington Beach, CA Pier. OK, standing is relative--I'm actually waving around like a maniac chasing the birds with my viewfinder trying to get the focus right before they flew out of the frame. It was quite a sight, I'll bet!

Here's a pic of some birds I took yesterday.

//www.pbase.com/image/16487784

There are a few more in that gallery too.

On a completely unrelated note, here's something I took today that would've been perfect for flora:

Now how could I go wrong with that?

Why did it think you were dead meat? Lucky it didn't snag you!

I'm old but not dead yet!
A few of these guys have been hanging around lately. With housing development so intense in the central valley, I guess they are running out of places to go. Years ago you couldn't get close to them, but it has changed somewhat now.

Terrific shot Dick! What shutter speed?
05/11/2003 02:48:39 PM · #20
Hey John,
Its been awhile since you entered anything, better get back at it.

I took the buzzard at about thirty paces with a full zoom of 144MM. The shutter speed was 1/640 @f-7.

This post is to (1) show my Canada Goose photo taken yesterday and to (2) test the method for dislpaying a small image that links to the full size one.

(Well, how about that ? it worked! Thanks for the great tutorial, bod.)

Depart 13 May for two months in Europe, and San Francisco area with my two children. That trip may rejuvenate the competitive spirit for DPC.
