Since there seems to be quite a number of people concerned about how much they have to vote for (eventhough only 20% is required) and how eratic the scores seems to be at times, how about a cap for the entries?

Let's say 300 for Member Challenges and 350 for Open Challenges? I did a quick random check about these challenges and the member challenges seems to hover at around 275-350. Most people participate in these challenges only if the challenge appeals to them or if they have time.

What happens is that challenge entries remain stagnant for a few days and we get bombarded by last minute entries. I myself am guilty of this. However if we have a cap on the amount of entries, people will be more inclined to really think about what there entries might be and there is that motivation to get it in as soon as possible to make the "cut".

Another is maybe a cap of how many votes you do per day. Let's say 75 votes per day. This allows everyone to really look at the photos for what they are and what they try to convey instead of always thinking, "Gee I've only made 5% of the votes. 15% more and I'll be done". This promotes eratic voting as people would just like to get done.

Just my two cents. Anyone else feels this way?

Just a suggestion.

If you put a cap on the entries, then everyone will be rushing around to get their shot in on that first day (so they don't miss the cut) and we're going to see a lot 'rushed' entries. People complain about the crappy entries now, I can only imagine it then.

You do have a point. How about the cap in voting then? What do you think?

I think the best thing we can do is ensure randomness in voting by eliminating any thumbnail views of the entries until after a vote has been recorded, so that people's first view of any photo is the full-sized one, and the vote cannot be prejudiced by the thumbnail view.

If people vote on the 20% minimum we will have a statistically valid result.

I can only vote on weekends usually cause I work 10-12 hour days during the week. On the weekend though, I could vote on all images. With a voting cap, I wouldn't be able to do that. Supose it would only work for people who can cast votes every single day. I don't have that option. Saturday would roll around, I'd cast my 75 votes and be sitting here for the other 8 hours saying 'wow...I sure wish I could still vote'. lol Just wouldn't work for me.

That is possibly the best idea yet!

Is there a reason for starting this new thread instead of continuing the extensive discussion in this thread? Seems to just make it more confusing, and more likely a good idea will get lost ...

Breaking it down to a smaller number per day sounds like a good idea... of course we could each be doing that ourselves by not doing all our voting at once. The percentages don't really get to me when I'm voting. Repeated images of the same thing does occaisionally. All the fireworks in circle for example, although they've actually scored fairly well with me. I think limiting the number of photos in the challenges is also a good idea... but realistically doubt it will happen. Good thinking though.

Here's my thoughts: Why doesn't someone on the SC Make a poll for the website and put in this data that seems to be covered time and again and get a real acurate count on what we all would like? It seems to me that a small clicky poll on the main page could both aleviate and enlighten, and they really aren't that hard to make.

You have a great point about the randomness. I would also like to see the >> button tossed on the large voting page as well to keep people from skipping photographs.

I was thinking that but I am not SC and cannot lock threads.

I think you are also right but I would add I need that sometimes. I have a few photographers here that I collaborate with and we have agreed to critique each others entry and skip it in voting to keep everything fair. So I would need it. But it only seems fair to lose it altogether.
