Am going out of town today, and have a shot in Circle. How does one pre- or self-validate again?

Click on the challenge's title as if you were going to start voting; go to the bottom of the very last page; click on your own photo; when it opens there will be a link labelled Request an Admin Note for your image; click that link and then fill in the info on the page that opens, including your original file, and then hit Submit Proof.

I'm leaving town today too, but I need to validate my entry for "Textures III", for which voing hasn't started yet. How do I validate my image before voting starts?
(Forum search didn't help.)

You can't really validate it ahead of time, but you can email your original file to 2-3 SC members now, or post it on the internet and send us a link to get it (even better); then, if there's a DQ request, we can upload the original on your behalf. Include all the necessary editing details and stuff in the email. |

I was always under the impression that if you were not sure if your entry was within the editing rules you could ask for validation before the challenge?.
Im sure some members have done this in the past. |

You can ask if a shot is legal by emailing the original and edited versions to the SC. This does not give it "Validated" status in the challenge however, and is outside the challenge system. A SC member can upload the original if the shot has a DQ request at a later date and the photographer is away, and the shot then goes thru the same process as all others.

Thank you.
I sent a PM with the Post Processing details and a link to the original file to GeneralE, Konador and hbunch7187.

"The same procedure as every year, James".
I am back home for half a day, enough to submit to the "Tools of the Trade" challenge.
I contacted GeneralE, Konador and hbunch7187 for details. Thanks.

To self-validate simply repeat:
"I AM a good person"
..until you feel better.
This advice would normally cost you £99 per hour session. |

This is getting tiresome. Should there not be another way of handling pre-validation?
Well, it's the same situation again, this time for 'Live Music'. I'll contact GeneralE, Konador and hbunch7187, since they know me by now :)
It's my last vacation for this year, I promise.

If you have a suggestion for a better method that isn't likely to be abused, I (for one) would be open to it.
Assuming you know you're going on vacation before the last minute, you could contact one of us in advance (or contact Drew/Langdon via the contact page) for an email address to use, and then you only have to send the file to one of us, rather than doing the last-minute mad scramble.

If it weren't for the file space and bandwidth issues, I'd say those interested in pre-validation (of sorts) could upload their unaltered original to the site. Uploading would be available to members and registered users via a link on the challenge submission page. The file would not be viewable by anyone accept the SC and the owner, and would not need to be viewed unless a validation request was made. Once the challenge was over or the photo validated, the file would be dumped automatically.
Granted, this is not a pre-validation, but rather an insurance policy against missing a request for validation. I am not sure how you could get around an honest pre-validation where someone is unsure of the legality of a shot or it's processing.

This ain't exactly last minute, I still have some time left :)
Paul's suggestion seems quite good. There is as far as I can see no reasonable way to actually validate your submission before voting. But a "backup"-system would be nice. A radio button or a checkbox which says: 'If requested, I may not be able to submit valid proof within 48 hours and therefore submit the original image file now.'
The SC would then know that, if a validation is necessary, the original file is already on the DPC servers (where they would end up anyways during normal validation), and do the validation process as usual.
AFAIK, validated files' originals are being kept in archives (there was quite a discussion about that some time ago), but orignals which were not used for validation could be deleted again.
Did that make any sense?

A little bump for others to share their opinions on this issue. |
