I am sending a few up my pictures to be made into 8 x 10's and costco only charges 1.99 for each one.The local camera shop charges 4.99.Is this because they make a higer quality print? |

Sorry and not trying to get off topic too bad...
Just wanted to point out (in case others didn't get the email) that Costco now has an on-line service where you can upload your files via internet to be printed and then drive to the store to pick them up. Pretty cool.
I always thought that Costco did a pretty good job with prints...I know mine locally has a high end printer (can't remember type) that you all you have to do is ask to have it printed on that one.

Each Costco is different so yours might turn out to be a dud or it might be the best thing since sliced bread.

A couple friends recently have tried Costco prints and they were pretty good.

If you do all the editing on your own photos yeah they will be fine, but if you dont, the usual camera shot will edit them and then print it, |

You can download color profiles for Costco machines here. |

So let's say you download them. How do you use the downloaded profiles in Photoshop to control the image Costco produces? |

You can use the profile to proof your images.

If Costco doesn't work out for you, you can upload your photos to Mpix at mpix.com. They also charge 1.99 per 8 x 10 and the quality is fantastic.
Good luck.

I do most of my printing at Costco and have gotten excellent results so far. I print almost exclusively on the (Fuji) Lustre paper; they use both Fuji and Noritsu output machines.
As mentioned, each store is a bit different, but it's certainly worth it to send a few test prints. You didn't mention the 14-18 CENT 4x6 prints, not the 12x18 for $3.
Also, the new online interface (they've had another out for a few months) is run by SnapFish, and the larger prints (16x20 and 20x30) will be processed and shipped by SnapFish, not processed in your local store.
Another note: They have a coupon sale this week for the Canon S1 IS (3MP, 10x zoom, CF cards, AA batteries) for only $225, just over half the price from last summer. A good deal if you don't need really big prints and don't do too many action shots (pretty slow shutter-lag). Takes great movies too. |
