Deadline: 07/10/2005
Details: It's been a while! Get up close and personal with the subject of your choice. You need not specifically use your macro feature, but your image should be a close-up shot.
I didnt get really Macro, and I'm being told it doesn't fit the challenge. But I did get real CLOSE!!!! |

Ditto. I can't do super macro but I am REAL close. Apparently not close enough though.

And according to the details we did not have to be real Macro
Good luck anyway |

When the challenge is about being close, the extremes of that condition are usually more well-received here.

I know there are many 'great' Macro shots on DPC

I personaly am NOT scoring anything low wether its a super macro or a close up. even got a new favorite added that isnt maro at all. I hope everyone keeps in mind that not all the entrants can achieve macro status for various reasons. i for one havent given less than a 6 so far. I am sorry to hear that your photo is suffering because of voters not being able to read the description AND understand it.maybe my high voting will help offset that. hope it gets better for all of you whom are hearing these same words.

And that's one reason why I decided to take a break on the challenges. Voters apearently can't read beyond the first word.
I'm getting a bit tired of this, because it's the same thing over and over in every challenge.

Don't worry - I shot mine using macro and additional magnification as well and I still got a comment that it was not close enough. Can't get any closer than lens against the subject. |

Totally agree. And now that I know this, I tend to either enter what the voters want if I want a high score, or I don't care about comments if I am entering something different that I like....

I just looked at my (so far) 4 images rated 10s. None of them are necessarily macros. All have a few things in common: excellent composition, excellent tonality or use of color, perfect POV, attention to detail. You could enter them in any topic related challenge and they would all score high. They are amazing images.
Sorry for those that are too close(?) or not close enough(!) - I find it rather, well, nevermind. The voters vote.
I enjoyed viewing all the images in this challenge immensely. The photographers did a great job. I'm working my way through commenting. Hope to get to you soon...

And that's excactly what I refuse to do, ever! I've been in several challenges now, ending up somewhere in the middle, because voters either like my photos or don't know what to think of it. I've a constant love/hate relationship with the voters, but the 'I hate it' voter hardly ever comment.

the next part of my sentence also said... or I don't care about comments if I am entering something different that I like....
so if you are entering something that doesn't have a mass appeal and its what you like, why do you care about negative or not meeting the challenge comments ?

I have given a 1, three 2s, and eight 3s - there are some really poor images in this group. I have also given a 10, and several 9s, 8s and numerous 7s - there are some fantastic shots too. I cannot believe that anyone could categorise my 1 vote with any of, say, my 7s by giving the best and worst no more than a three point separation.
Some of the voting has nothing to do with ability on the behalf of the voters. Some of the photos are poor. If you have takn a low scoring photo, there is more likely than not a reason: if not explained in the comments, repost it after the challenge is over and ask why, if you cannot see it yourself. But do not go on to blame everyone else for failing to understand the challenge or your interpretation of it.

There is many very good picture in this challenge, and I did not very look at pictures being a "Macro", as long as they were nice "Close Up" they got a decent score from me.
I'm not considered as a high scorer ( my average score given is below 5 ), but on this challenge it might change a bit, I only gave 4 pictures a score below 4, and I can't remember giving so many 10's, 9's and 8's. This was not done to improve my scoring average, I just scored the way I use to have. And the "obsolete" challenge will probably see my lowest average score given.
All that to say that I think this is one of the challenge that has the most beautifull entries in a while, and if people do vote on "Macro's" only, then they are missing something.

I guess i have just been lucky to get all the really great photos first.i have only voted 23% of the entrys so far. Im sure i havent seen the same "really poor"photos that you voted a 1-3.i will make as many constructive comments as possiable during this week.

Reading the title "Macro" automatically gives assumption. When in fact, the Admin, and SC need to edit such inconsistancy to match the discription.
Obviously the discription is one thing that doesn't match the title.
Just my thought on this subject...and one I will continue to harp on until such editing from the MANAGEMENT starts.

Obviously the title should have been "Get a little closer"
Every title should be a song lyric :) |

Mine is SOOOOOOOOOO not macro! And I'm paying the price, baby!
I went with "close-up is relative", and decided to do something different. OOOOPS!
Maybe I'll get lucky and get a 5 ;-)

Heh, funny thing - I was totally convinced there was no way I could get a good macro shot with my current lens, but I managed to get this today:
Bet it would have done a lot better than my entry. |
