Okay, I decided to try something different.
I think that I, like most people, tend to comment most on the images that are really good and sometimes on some of the images that are bad. But the middle of the pack goes largely unnoticed.
So... I've finished voting. And now I'm going back to my 5's to write comments to explain why I voted a five.
And you know what? So far, several of my 5's I've had to bump up to 6's as I have decided I was too quick in the first go-around.
I know this will take awhile, but I'll see how many of my 5's I can get to. I'll either bump them up, bump them down, or leave a comment. I hope it helps. (if nothing else, I think I'll learn something from the process)

In my opinion it's not the super photos that need comments, but the 'bad' ones and middle class ones that are crying out for constructive "why's".
This time I'll vote all the 'out of the box' and 'trying to do something different' and 'close-up' photos first, because I think they deserve more attention from us voters.

David, you hit the nail on the head! These are exactly the folks that will benefit most from your comments, they are the ones who will appreciate most what you say and they are the ones who traditionally get the fewest comments.
Good luck... You are a fine photographer and comments from someone like you means a lot. You are about to be commended for your efforts from the people that will benefit the most.

I agree, but even so I notice that criticism, no matter how well intentioned or carefully stated, tends not to be acknowledged with the "Photographer found comment helpful" box being checked. |

the thing is, i don't think the people getting the bumps and comments are the true beneficiaries of the revisit--i think dave is, because he's taking the time to go back and really see what he thinks he saw the first time.
i've said it before, and i'll say it again: if you want to get something out of this site, it's not going to be from the comments you get, it's going to be from the comments you give. |

To be honest, I am one of those folks that tend to check that box to acknowledge I got the remark. I don't think checking or not checking it means much. What is said in the comment is what means something, whether acknowledged or not.
I do not think that changes to the current comment system is needed, contrary to recent forum suggestions.
