I noticed about a month ago that when I use the green square function on my 10D that it all-of-a-sudden was overexposing all the shots..meaning I can't trust it anymore when shooting on the fly. I usually shoot manual so it's not that big of a deal, but still, ever happened to anyone else?

In almost two years, I've never set mine on the dreaded green square, so, unfortunately, I can't provide help from direct experience... a couple questions, though:
- How overexposed are the shots?
- have you tried shooting different combinations of light/dark areas to see if the metering is concentrating on one area?

It overexposes every single shot. I was testing it this weekend at another wedding when i had a break. *shrugs*.

I used to use it for less-important shots when the sun/clouds would shift alot so I didn't have to be constantly changing settings. Oh well.....

It basically turns your 10D (or Rebel) into a P&S. User need worry about nothing other than pointing and pressing the shutter button.

One thing that surprised me was that the 1D doesn't even have this option. There's no dial for modes like that. The closest to that sqare setting is P mode.

This weekend I was shooting a wedding outdoors and we were in the midst of a "severe thunder shower" warning but it kept going from REALLY dark to really bright in a nano-second, my right hand was starting to cramp from changing the settings so much. Green square would've been useful.

Why not using "program" mode then? It gives you some more "room" for modifications, instead of the "green square" thingie!

I thought about that after I made my post. I've never used the program functions before. Now's a good time to learn I 'spose.
