Just a thought. When I look at some of the top finishers and look at the voting breakdown, there are always people who vote really low. Just wondering what people are thinking. I know these challenges are very subjective, but I'm wondering what they are thinking. One thing that is good is that these low votes are few, and for the most part, good photos get the recognition that they deserve. Just a thought.

I sometimes wonder what people are thinking when they start a thread like this after every challenge...

Maybe they just feel threatened when they see a great image, and vote low, so they're image has a better shot at scoring higher. Low, imoral, selfish and mean: yes, but possible.

The winner, at least, gives the lie to that perception: check out these scores:
1 0
2 0
3 0
4 4
5 8
6 52
7 50
8 53
9 38
10 46
I have NEVER seen a more consistent top block LOL. And only 12 votes lower than 6, none lower than 4...
Wow...

Robert, I was just looking at that too. I am stunned and amazed, I mean you always see a handful of low votes even at the top, and in the top 10 here:
1st-no 1's, 2's or 3's
2nd-no 1's or 2's
3rd-no 1's or 2's
4th-no 1,2 or 3
5th-no 1's, only one 2
6th-no 1's, only one 2
7th-no 1's, only one 2 and 3
8th-no 1's
9th-no 1's
10th-no 1's or 2's, one 3
wowsers...

A personal first for me, i think, but the top three all got 10s from me. I cant remember the last time my picks mirrored those of the general voters so well with regards to the ribbons.

Looks like no trolls saw my photo either, no 1's but 95 5's and those lovely "Avg (no camera): 4.000" people, who are I guess family and friends of hopeful ribbon winners, they were there in full force! Why are these people allowed to vote???

Actually, I got not 1's or 2's for the first time ever (through 9 challenges or so). I just went and looked at all my photos and the people without cameras always ALWAYS score way worse than people with. What gives with that? |

The "no camera" votes are very few, typically only one, two or three per challenge, often none at all (when you see 0.000 average there were none). You can ignore that number, it has no statistical significance whatsoever.
The average for commentors vs. all voters will nearly always be higher. Those who comment usually liked the pic, so scored higher on average.
Edit for typos, grammar.

Xilebo, that's silly. If my camera was to be stolen tonight, I'd remove it from the DPC database and I'd be one of those voters myself... Remember, there aren't many of them participating, so their average gets skewed: if there was only one no-cam voter working your entry, and he gave it a 4, then the "average no-camera voters" would be 4.0... It doesn't really mean anything, really, really.

Well, glad to hear that they aren't the "big army of friends and family" recruits ;) and even if my camera was stolen or I lost it, would still vote as if I had it, silly yourself ;)
