After my initial anxiety Here, I took the 20D out for a couple of shots. I had the Sigma 70-300 on it for all these.

Notes:
1. Dang this things noisy. When I took a shot of my daughter (3), she asked me if it's broken.
2. The Macro shots were taken from about 1m distance lens to subject. Butterflies were about 2cm long.
3. Eagle is out of focus, I know, I basically took it out the box, Charged the battery, Set the mode dial to P, and started shooting. I will go back to these birds with more knowledge for sure.
Now I can update my portfolio...

Woo Hoo!! Congratulations on your new purchase BlackDot. It is indeed a really fine Camera. Now you only have to learn how to start taking decent photographs.

First Pic: You do know you can select af points on the Canon right? You have 9, and you still get this massive bird out of focus. What were you thinking?! 2m wingspan, and you blur the sucker! Sheesh! And next time, play with the dof, so you could blur out that background a little.
Second: See above.
Third, fourth and fifth. Nice colours, but decide what you'll be focusing on. Those bflies' wings aren't really well focused. but you did good on that yellow flower.
Sixth: Nice composition, but a little oversharpened imho.

Last thing. Get your Arse in gear and become a full member of this here fine site!! That way people can make proper comments on your pics, and you don't have this idiotic grey avatar!

BlackDot: While I don't really appreciate your tone, I do appreciate your comments.
And if you think you can do better, why dont you show us :P

I have to agree with Blackdot on all points. I do think his tone is very rude though and he is probably just closed-minded and doesn't think out-of-the-box enough to appreciate your fine shots. I would kick his ass if I was you, Blackdot. :P

I don't know which one of you didn't take the pills this morning, but one of you did ;-)

All nice shots, but also a bit soft for my taste. Are they heavily cropped, or just possibly some slight camera shake? Either way, I think some sharpening might benefit. Looks like you're putting the camera to good use - I have a dust speck in my viewfinder as well. Annoying at first, but I hardly notice it anymore. Best of luck to you with your 20D :)

Hehe, Thanks for all the comments.

Everything was handheld. I shot the big black chicken at 300mm, and cropped about 2/3 of the image away. Macro's are uncropped in height. I allready love this camera, and cannot wait to get out there again. Allthough, it is quite a stiff climb to get to the eagles..
I'm having BlackDot go through the EOS manual before I go. I don't have the time. I'll also have some words with him tonight when I get home, about manners and such. ;-P

Would someone please tell me why BlackDot seems to be arguing with himself and talking about himself in the third person?

I'm very confused!

Easy. He wants attention, and on the side, possably someone to comment on his first ever photo's with a real live DSLR.

Glad to hear that you got the black dot (now isn't this funny?) to relocate.

Wish I return to the day that I first took my 20D out of the box and held it for the first time - amazing piece of equipment.

Comment on our discussion the other day : sony 828 = some big intimidating looking bad guy. Canon 20D = Steven Segal. No further comment.

This whole damn conversation is not making any sense

Blackdot,

Los amigos son neustros amigos man! Gotta get a longer lens for my KATLAKKETLAK. I can't photograph people with my current 18-55mm lens since I get peppered with questions after pressing the shutter release. (You saw what happened the other day in Wimpy...)

The extra distance provided by a longer lens will definately help to reduce the sound of the 20D's shutter.

(And might also give me a welcome head start, should I happen to be unlucky enough to photograph a manically shy person, and should said person take exception to being photographed.)

Blackdot is right but please tell him he will come to love that noise and he has a damn fine piece of camera. (not bias or anything)
