sort of...when did you buy it, and did you buy it new?
900-0003 would indicate that it has just turned over 90,000 clicks! the 900 indicates the number of folders created (and each folder holds 100 images). the 0003 indicates that you just turned over 9999 clicks on the image counter. |

I don't think it could be 90,000 clicks--I bought it in February and it was brand-spankin' new...

alright...mystery solved!
if you have a brand new canon and put in a brand new flashcard, your first image will be 100-0001.
if you have a brand new canon and put in a flashcard used in another camera, your new canon will attempt to start numbering images based on the data on the flashcard.
if you want to reset your counter, you need to reformat the flashcard in the camera and set your file numbering to auto-reset, take a picture, then set file numbering back to continuous. |

So based on that, if you are considering a used camera, what the meter says means nothing as to the number of clicks on the camera. |

you can take it to a canon service centre and they can see how many activations it has.
the folder numbers are very confusing.

Okay, so those first 3 numbers (folder numbers) before the hyphen mean nothing?
I'm still confused, but a little less than before...Thanks for the info! : )
edit:
I used a brand new flash card in a brand new Rebel when I first got it, and now my counter says 903-0339. Does that mean 10,339? If so, what is the 903 for?
GAH!

If my thinking is correct, it would mean about 80,339. You are having the exact same thing as i am. The camera i bought was new. eBayer (i know. flame me) had a perfectly good reputation with many camera sales backing it up, and no-one had complained. Besides, The camera is in 100% shape. No dust, No scratches, No nothing.
I use a Kingston 512mb CF card (The normal crappy model, that costs around 35e) never used on other cameras. What are you using?
EDIT: 903-0339
thousands(80)/hundreds(300)-thousands/hundreds(300)/tens(30)/ones(9)
The count starts from 100-0001, so 903-0339 is actually 803-0339
