I currently have the Sigma 28-80mm @ 5.6f with macro from 2-.25mm @ 1:2.

I am interested in a lense that can beat this lense hands down.

I would love to get even tighter, with a faster lens.

Maybe something Canon?

Any ideas before I start my binjing for the weekend?

Canon 100 F2.8 Macro if you want Canon. Maybe the EF-S 60 F2.8 Macro

sigma 105mm and canon 50mm on the end turned upside down, you can get great macros like that.
You have the Canon MP-E 65mm lens f2.8 manual focus..
I never tried it but it seems a really nice lens to me.

Can any of you fine members show me an sample of the lens that you are talking there of inside this thread thingy.

if you don't want to modify lenses, get a 100mm canon macro or a 105 sigma, or a 90mm tamron. All of these are very sharp! I wouldn't worry much about focus speed, auto focus in macro mode is often terrible and even on my 1D it doesn't like to lock properly.

If you want great results even cheaper, you can setup an on body reversed 50mm manual lens for 1:1 or a 35mm for 1.5:1 or a 24mm for 2:1 with much improved DOF over the reversed 50 on the end of another lens. Also it will be cheaper this way. However you'll need to manually set av. values on the lens. These results will also be sharper than the results from the 2 lens method.

Yeah, I have been thinking about the 50mm, but now I may have to think more.

I find it hard enough to get a sharp picture when they're just sittin on the flower! How long did it take you to get this, and what settings did you use? Is it cropped much?

It took me a couple days of trying!...Im in Ecuador so im not sure of the settings but I believe it was ISO 100, Shutter Speed 2000, and Aperture 4, but again I can't be sure (I should have added the info on the photo)..not cropped much

I would vote for canon 100mm 2.8 macro. You can check my macro folder
A few samples here

That image was taken with a 100 macro along with a reversed 50mm. There's a big difference in telephoto.

(Edit: I know it's your shot, btw.)

These are all the Canon 100 2.8 Macro USM. In the hands of someone with more patience and/or skill than I, it can be amazing. I also use it for people shots - probably the sharpest lens I have.

The first two are hugely cropped, the second 2 barely cropped at all.

You attach your macro lens to the camera, say i attach my 105mm Lens to the camera and then i get my Canon 50mm lens and reverse it in front of the sigma 105mm, that is the reverse method...
Look at the guarawa's photo of the fly's eyes his got a setup shot of the way it's done.. hope this helps.

I like my Sigma 105mm. I bought it to take shots of jewelry for a friend but I really like it's portrait capabilities most of all. I'm not a big bug-shot guy but this lens can capture those very well. Beautiful bokeh.

Here's one more macro lens portrait of Charlie the Clown of Zippo's Circus taken in Chiswick. He's a very warm guy and I think this captures his essence, pretty well.
