Subject says it all. Wow- talk about unexpected. This is just...wow. Amazing. It's going to be an incredibly interesting nomination process. There's no way Renquiest stays more than another year.

No big surprise REALLY. I would be surprised if Rehnquist doesn't step down during Bush's term as well. The conservatives know that they want Bush to appoint the next Chief (maybe Scalia? We can hope!) And with O'Connor going now, Bush can fill another conservative spot so that when Hillary or Barack Obama win in 2008, and Ginsburg promptly retires, we don't have a 6-3 court.

Federal Courts of Appeals Judges
J. Michael Luttig
John Roberts
Michael McConnell
Emilio Garza James Harvie Wilkinson III

OR, will he reach back to Bush Sr's near pick - Edith Jones. She must be getting up in age though too?
