If I am going to use Nikkor 18-70mm kit lens, what setting (focal length, aperture, shutter speed) would be most preferable? Primarily the focal length. Thanks ahead of time and any other suggestions would be great....Obviously, if you look in my portfolio, I have basically 0 macro shots. Probably my weakest area (lens might help).

The 18-70 definitely isn't a macro lens, but the best way to find out what works best is to experiment. You'll probably get better results at the 70 mm end rather than 18. For shutter speed, 1/the focal length is a good bet (ie, if you shoot at 50 mm, use a shutter speed of 1/50 or greater). Aperture shouldn't matter too much with that lens, as you probably won't be able to get so close that you have to use a small aperture to keep more of the subject in focus.
