Please do me one favor with this thread. Don't turn it into a political rant. Then it will be moved to the Rant section and only few will see it. If you feel the need to speak, then by all means go ahead, just keep it from becoming a rant discussion. Be mature.
I am posting a link below. If you support urging congress not to make the USA PATRIOT ACT permenant the way it reads now, please click the link below and show your support.
Personally, I feel that the PATRIOT Act takes away the civil liberties of good American citizens. If someone is suspected of a crime, there is no reason that law enforcement can't effectively do their job without following the proper checks and balances by obtaining a court order, before searching and siezing. To think that we need to go above our judicial system in order to "protect freedom" is completely absurd.
A court order, folks, is the key issue. The Patriot Act allows law enforcement to search and seize "without" a court order. We have a court system in place so that law enforcement does not have the ability to abuse their power and infringe on the civil liberties of American citizens - NO MATTER WHAT. Please show your support in eliminating the Patriot act, or in the least, by having it amended to restore the proper balance of our judicial system.

Thanks.

the problem is that there are TOO MANY moving parts to this whole machine to be able to fix all of them at once.
here is a link to a perfect example of how the system is broken. one of the defendents in this story was solicited to stab someone, arrested, convicted, DEPORTED, and RETURNED TO THE US WITHIN WEEKS...read the story here.
bottom line for me is, it's not perfect, but it does need some work, and you have to start somewhere. |
