Who's to say she took those? You gotta wonder.

I hope you are going to check to see if her ribbon winning photo is actually hers.

For that one she had to have an original with exif data...

Now is just low. Why would anyone do that? It makes no sense. It can't them the feeling of accomplishment that you get when a photo you took wins. So why?

Keep pressing. Find out what publicity is available and contact these sources also. Also send the complaint by registered mail even though you have used email.

Let's remember this could be someone else entirely and not gigi. I say we stop bashing her and let SC handle it. You might be giving someone a bad name when it is not even them. I am not saying it isn't. I am saying it is not good to assume.

Possibly there was an actual prize involved, a camera or something...

Does this mean Gary has won by default?

Aren't canings a normal form of punishment there?

For the record, her submissions were entered before we started requesting proof on top 5. Proof was never received on any of her images.

Ah, a cool head. Excellent idea. Until we have all the facts (and we won't be privy to all of them) how can we know for sure. Hopefully we won't hang the wrong person!

But it does piss one off.

I got a reply from the administrator of the site where the photo won. He wrote me:

I have sent this user a warning and asked that he/she remove the photo immediately. Please check back in a day or two and let me know if the photo is still there.

Thanks.

Yes please ... we have limited information available from a single source. If there's guilt involved, the SC/admins will handle any necessary DPC discipline, and Gary is the only one who should be dealing with anyone else about this.

We can all be concerned about an apparent (and egregious) piece of plagarism, but forming an online committee to determine the appropriate method of lynching is inappropriate.

It pisses me off when someone steals another person photo or anything copywrited for that matter. But it pisses me off almost as much when people start accusing before the facts are there.

If someone from another site steals a photo from here and hius username is rex there and everyone starts blaming me I would be real pissed.

Same first name, same last name, same country... it's a good start Watson. :-)

hey Kiwiness, that's a great shot you've got there. Find out what this person won and talk to the site admins (of the contest holders, not DPC)..get teh prize revoked and them kicked off the site or somethin'...what's all this crazy talk about hangins' and whatnot? I must've opened a time-warp page back to when angry mobs and witch-burners were still the "in thing".

Yeah it is a good start but what makes us Judge, Jury, & Executioner?

Edit: To state that my name is James Stanton. How many James Stanton live in the US do a directory search and there are tons. I just did a search for Georgia and there are 15 people with that name. Makes ya think huh.

Yes, but that (JJE) is not our role. Ours is that of interested bystanders.

Not mob violence, but I'd certainly like to see more action from the admin than that.

Related question: If someone were to take their own similar picture of an igniting match and submit that to a comp, would that be wrong? Or of a glass full of water with some neat 2 tone deco refractions, or of a red filter making a heart shape on a music score/poetry book?
I'm not making a point, I really would like to know if that level of imitation is wrong.

Oh, and congrats on winning the comp Kiwiness:D Sheesh, winning without even entering. That's a whole new kind of good.

Than what? We're discussing the matter, and after evaluating the information we have now and that we get we will do something, and probably make an announcement too. Maybe people can go back to voting or commenting or whatever ... there's "nothing to see here" until we hear what the contest admins and/or the "photographer" have to say.

This doesn't sound right. Looking at the image that you posted initiating this thread, it appears that the image is on a contest winning page not in a portfolio. That would be like DPC asking a challenge winner to remove their winning image - the user couldn't do it, D & L would.

Edited my post above to say:

To state that my name is James Stanton. How many James Stanton live in the US do a directory search and there are tons. I just did a search for Georgia and there are 15 people with that name. Makes ya think huh.

Her name is a probably more unique than mine but I will stand by what I say. Never accuse anyone until you know all the facts.

Isn't Gigi the one who got DQ'd and quit?

//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=31900

"She was unable to produce the original of her photo for proof that the photo was legally taken within DPC rules, and Got DQed. Her account was removed at HER request. No wrong doing."

From her friend "From her last entry which she was #3 she can't provide the original photograph coz her computer was swipe out by virus, she was sad not defending herself to it but she cant do anything more about it."

Huh.
