Dear All,
I tried to upload an image that I uploaded for one challenge, onto photo.net. It was rejected and the following message was seen:

"Problems with Photoshop 7 JPEG images
Most JPEG files contain profile information, for example to describe the color space used in the photos. Some software vendors use the profiles to record other information as well. JPEG's containing such data are technically in conformance with the JPEG/JFIF specification, but not all software applications can handle them, in particular Web Browsers.

As of Photoshop 7, Adobe started using the JPEG profiles to record an XML-encoded "preview" of the JPEG image. PS 7 does this by default when the "Save..." option is selected. These JPEG files, when downloaded by some versions of Internet Explorer, will render the browser completely incapable of downloading images. In order to clear the problem, all browser windows must be closed and the browser restarted. When the "Save for Web..." option is used in Photoshop 7, the preview information is not included in the JPEG output, and these files do not break browsers. Not all browsers are affected by this problem, and you may not be aware that the JPEG file you have created will cause a problem for other people.

As PS 7 is coming into more widespread usage, increasing numbers of JPEG images with the problematic profile information are being uploaded to photo.net, and the site is increasingly being viewed as one which breaks viewers' browsers. Accordingly, we have instituted a technical procedure to detect JPEG images which might be a problem, and reject them.

If your image has been rejected, it is most probably due to the fact that you created it in Photoshop 7 and did not use the "Save for Web..." feature to output it. If you recreate the image using "Save for Web...", you will probably be able to upload it to photo.net. "

I am not sure how many of us actually have problems in downloading images, and also i am not sure if this has been discussed here before, but I guess as a precautionary measure, we can learn from this and use "Save for Web.." as an option while creating JPGs from Photoshop 7.

I believe that the Save for Web method of saving is a requirement for this site too. I seem to remember an announcement to that effect last fall.

According to this thread the problem was fixed here last year...but you might want to review the information anyway.

Ok my apologies.. I guess i missed that thread. I had a short break from photography, and I am back- this week onwards...

Thanks for the link...and I am sure if it is not a problem with DPC any more, it must have been solved...
Does that mean that all the images that are not "saved for web" from Photoshop seven and uploaded at DPC, are auto/ mannually corrected before they are open for voting??
