I survived a week of clear dark night skies with the telescope.
here is a shot I did of the Milky Way with the D60.
the camera was piggy back on the telescope.
exposure: Single (1 image) 150 seconds (2 1/2 minutes)
manualy guided
processing:
dark frame subtrack
cropped
resized
auto level
Milky Way
there is some field rotation noticible on the left and right hand side of the image.

James,
Beautiful shot! Of course several questions come instantly to mind.. hope you don't mind my asking so many:
- What effective focal length was used?
- What scope were you using?
- What was the shooting location?
- How much coffee did you drink during the week?
The field rotation is there, but IMHO does not detract from a great image! |

Location: Prude Ranch in Ft. Davis Tx, Elevation 5,000 ft. 104W, 30.6N
Scope: Meade LX-90
Camera Focal Length: 28mm set to manual focus on Infinity, exif data shows 154mm equivilant
Time: 3:13 am CDT 05/01/03
coffee: LOTS via iv drip...lol
I wanted to do several more images to stack them but it was pretty hard to manually guide the telescope on a small star. Plus i was pretty tired.
I did a pano shot of the Milky way but I have yet to process it and sticth it together. I hope it comes out ok...

I do hope you post the pano if it come out! Are you just stitching in PS or using pano software? |

And they call that hot spots !!!!! duh !
