Don't know if this has been suggested before, but what about having a forum for users of each camera?

This could be accessed from the camera pages, and maybe from a users profile, depending which cameras they own.

I'm sure there have been times where we've all wanted to ask a question about some problem/feature of our own cameras, and don't want to just post it in the Hardware forum in the hope that someone else with the same model can help (and will actually read it in the first place).

Let me know what you think!

That's a lot of forums -- potentially thousands -- with more being created at any time. The worst part of this would be that most of these camera specific forums would have little to no traffic at all.

Also, most of the questions that would be asked about a specific camera would likely be about features that many (if not all) cameras have in common to some degree or another. Segregating these questions would prevent others (who happen to not have that exact camera) from finding them -- leading to duplicate posts as the same question is asked by different people in different forums, each one for their own specific camera.

Personally, I think there is more than enough focus on the equipment as it is, one forum is plenty.

That said, I wouldn't mind having a seperate forum for lighting, as it falls across photography discussions and hardware -- but again, I haven't seen enough traffic specifically on lighting to warrant an exclusive forum.

DpReview has forums for many different digital cameras. Your camera doesn't have its own forum, but there is one called "Other digicams." A quick search for DiMAGE gave 149 results. Check it out ... Its a pretty nice community over there, too. Dpreview.com - Dimage search results

For me, DpChallenge is all about photography. When I have questions regarding my specific camera hardware - lenses and so on, I usually go over to DpReview.

This would be fine for P&S camera users, but many DSLR users are more concerned with lenses than their bodies... there's no way you could reconsile a system of forums about cameras with a system of forums about lenses in the same lot.

Not to mention that DPC's forums form a contiguous community, allowing everyone irrelevant of camera to discuss all photographic issues. Unless these forums were limited to camera technicality discussions only, it would simply encourage segregation between different classes and styles of photographer.
