There's a new radio station where I live and they play a completely random mix of music- it's like the ipod shuffle function as a radio station.

It's awesome! I've been listening to it for 3 days now and I have yet to hear the same song twice. They play everything from '70s to 2000's. Their catchline is: "Whatever..whenever". There are also no D.J.s, just music and some ads.

Anyone have any new radio stations with this format in their area?? I hope this format spreads. It's really cool.

you can get the same type of mix from may online radio stations.
//www.shoutcast.com . I don't know of a station in my area that does this though... If you count classical music stations, they usually cover a few hundred years of music ;-)

This station is better than many of the other stations I've heard, especially the ones that say they play "a mix of music", when in fact it's the same thing over and over. This new station plays so random, and they're all hit songs, or semi-hits. Unfortunately, I can't play shoutcast on my car radio, but yeah, that would be cool too.

They're marketing the station as an alternative to downloading songs from itunes. Itunes is $1.00 a song, their station is free. It's interesting and a really good marketing scheme.

Minnesota Public Radio has a new station, 89.3 The Current. It's definitely got a wide, random mix of music. People are all crazy over it but really, I can't get into it. It lacks flow. I like a lot of different kinds of music but not necessarily next to each other.

Here's the link for the station: mp103 You can play the station via the link. Just click the Play button on the ipod player. :)

Up here in the Cape region we have a new station called 'Mike' and they play an assortment of everything never repeating. Sounds like the same group of people.
