I'm looking for a hotshoe for my Panasonic FZ20 because the built-in flash makes my pictures look like a police lineup. I've used other people's SLRs with these huge hotshoes and remotes and stuff so I'm somewhat familiar with their operation; althought I've never paid attention to their technical details.
What are some of the features I should be looking for while shopping for a hotshoe and remote? Can you guys suggest a few products for under $200? :)

...ok, I guess my question wasn't specific enough.
For example, would THIS work with my Panasonic? or is it compatible with Nikon only?

I'm not sure how flashes work without TTL on auto cameras. I would guess you have to use it in manual mode in which case you could probably spend $20 and get a good powered flash off ebay.

I have a Vivitar for my manual film body. It has a built-in meter of its own. set the film speed and f/stop. Youre good to go. It has a bounce head and plenty of power. It is their 285. They also make 283 whitch looks good to. I have had mine a longgg time and it still works great. Put Nimh batteries in it and it cycles damn quick. If there is enough light so it only has to fill. It will keep up with my motordrive. 3fps I think.

THIS ONE sounds promising; does anybody own this Vivitar?

Sounds like it has some of the same features as mine. Except geared for universal digital use. This link to Vivitar's page gives more detail.
