dr3amz, you're misunderstanding. She paid the fee (for dpchallenge) so she could enter the challenges. The camera has been in her possession for 8-10 years.

I think the "Part of the Reason I joined" part was directed at being able to enter challenges. Just so happens she has a camera that doesn't have EXIF, therefore her reason for joining has been dashed.... Poor, poor soul. :-) We all know how we feel when we can't get into a challenge for whatever reason.
Now stop being a camera snob and go take some pictures!!!! ;-) (of course, I'm kidding as well when I say this) :-D
Edited to add: Yes, Kelli, if you ever have the opportunity, upgrade. Doesn't have to be a fancy DSLR, a nice P&S will be just fine. You'll never believe the difference a few megapixels can make in the quality of your photos. :-)

Thanks Jenisis, for your understanding. I am not trying to complain, I was just looking forward to gettin into the challenges, and getting some feed back on the pics. Some have looked at the ones in my portfolio but no one has said if I could improve or not. Just lookin for some advice.....

Kelliloo, don't stop submitting, if no one is commenting on your images go in and post a critque request, I'm not a member so I'm not sure but isn't there a way to submit it to a certain place for commenting? Probably just talking out my ...
I commented on your bridge pic and will try and do the others later at home. I love the sky shot, shows a desire to try different stuff.

Not quite sure how these guys are selecting the recipients of their donated cameras, but it couldn't hurt to ask. Maybe they have one sitting around for you?

That would be cool.
It is only a fixed focal length camera, so it's a bit of a step down from Kelly's Sony, so she may not want it. Either way, it's up for grabs.

Kelliloo, I have glanced at your portfolio and quite frankly, I think the only thing really holding you back right now is the camera you are using. Even with your images at roughly 640 on one side, your images appear slightly pixelated and that's the main thing that is detracting from your photography.
You seem to have a good eye, you are just hindered by your current equipment.
The only thing I can suggest would be to save your change and look around at places that you may otherwise overlook for a better camera, even used. For instance, you could check out Pawn Shops, which are present in just about every mid-sized and above city and in one of those places, you might find a truly hidden gem. Check out ebay and see what you might be able to find there.
If you can move up to a more recently developed camera that has some form of Exif data, then you can really start unleashing your potential. |

Do me a favor and hold off on the camera for a day or so. I might have something in the works for here now. More to follow later.
Edit: Just don't ship it yet.

WOW! I can unleash...I would love to unleash! Thank you for all your positive words! I am almost afraid of what I could do if I had a better cam...I also, if anyone is interested, not sure if anyone lives in MI or is willing, but I need help with the photo editing stuff. I am an idiot when it comes to layers and all that.

I have to say I thought this one was going to just be another bitching session. I pround to be a part of a group like this. This thread has gone from I am mad my camera doesn't cut it to having 2 or 3 offers to help fix that all in one day. I wonder who feels better the givers or the reciever. Hmmm. Good job all around I say.

As a former user of a Sony Mavica (FD-95), I used a Memory Stick/Floppy Disk Adaptor (MSAC-FD2M) which stores exif info for a Sony Mavica. The Memory Stick/Floppy Disk I was using broke, so for the first 25 challenges I entered in DPC, I simply used 3.5 floppy disks for shooting photos. I realized that any shot had the potential of being DQ'd if it placed in the top 10. I looked into ordering a new Memory Stick/Floppy Disk Adaptor for this exact camera and they were readily available online at a variety of sites including Ebay. I did not order one, because my son won a new digital camera on Steve's Digicam, which he was kind enough to share with me for weekly use. Oddly, one of the first challenges with the new Casio (March Free Study 2005) I placed 4th and was required to submit validation (something I couldn't have done with the Sony Mavica. The Mavica has a great closeup lense, better than the newer Casio (hint, hint: Macro 4 challenge!). Hope this helps.
