I got my 1D mkI today (see to left!), so I took it out for a quick 'spin' at a local lake.

Wildlife isn't usually my thing, but I'm reasonably pleased with the shots. I was shooting with my 70-200/2.8L + 1.4xTC, which was still far too wide, so most of those pics are heavily cropped (<1000 px mostly). I will normally shoot sports at much closer range, so I don't think I'll be too hurt by the 1.3 crop vs. the 1.6 on my 300D.

Not bad at all for your first outing. The first two look a little soft. The third is my fav of the bunch, nice and sharp.

It was really just to test the camera. The distance I was working at even 200mm * 1.4 wasn't really enough.

Looks like one damn fine camera to me...if those are your first attempts, I won't bother entering any more bird challenges!

Thanks Steve. They are a tad soft, so a bit more USM would be in order. ;-)

Yep, but it was the first time...I am sure you will soon get it all together. That third shot was a great capture, regardless of softness etc. Maybe one day, we can get together for a shoot.

I'll let you know when I'm in the area, Steve. :)

I went out again to today to take some more pics of ducks...

Here are the results

I also took two sample pics, one from my 300D and 1D both at ISO 1600 and printed them at a photo shop at 8" x 6". Despite some banding on the 1D shot it was a lot cleaner in terms of noise.

Thanks. It's fair to say I'm appreciating it so far. :-D

Well the seller seems very legit, and has been sending me info on how to use the camera etc. before it gets here... I've never heard of a seller putting this much effort into a sale :-)

Thanks Amy, glad you like them! They were really just 'peak action' rather than for any particular aesthetic value.

Logan - hope the camera arrives tomorrow. I'm keen to read how much you like it! :-)

Also, this shot is ISO 640. :-)

The 1D is one of the best cameras ever made by Canon and sadly much better than the 1ds as it does not suffer from any "color" issues, it did not stay on top very long because of the pixel wars but that's the only reason it's still not #1.
