Hey there everyone i am only new to this site. I am looking into purchasing a new camera. At this current time i have a Canon Powershot G6. I am thinking of spending around the $2000 mark Nikon D70 or the canon d20. My question is what do u guys/gals think is a better camera. The photos i will be taking is people photos and sports pics eg:drifting, v8s, racing, still cars and people photos. Thank u

I'm shure you'll be fine for your intents with either one of the cameras. I love my D70 but I gess the 20D is in some issues a better camera, but also more expensive one too. With the new D70s in the market the D70 will drop price a bit, what makes it a very good qualaty/price item. And then you can invest the rest of the money in glass. One advice regarding the D70: if you can buy the 18-70mm lens kit. It is an excellent lens for the price. Or if you buy separatly try to get a good deal on a 24-120mm VR. It's a blast for what I've heard. It will be my next walk around lens.

If you want to shoot sports you generally need quite wide aperture lenses, which tend to get fairly expensive.

For a Canon (as an example) you could spend:

50mm/1.8 - $80
Tamron 28-75/2.8 - $400
Canon 70-200/4 - $580, or
Canon 70-200/2.8 - $1100 (NOT IS version), or
Sigma 70-200/2.8EX - $840

You can get away with cheaper lenses, but the point I'm making is lenses are very expensive.

Out of those lenses here's what I use them for:

Canon 50mm/1.8 [For indoor sports]
Sigma 28-70/2.8 EX [For indoor sports]
Canon 70-200/2.8L [For outdoor sports, candids, model]
