What is the best way to check sharpness in D70? On D70, when I zoom in on the picture it looks sharp, however on my 20.1" monitor it is not so good.

My question is this: is there way to zoom to 100% on the camera's screen?

I don't think it's quite 100% (might be though), but if you press the 'zoom' button on the D70, then when you're zoomed in, press and hold the button with the mosaic icon, and turn the main control knob, it will zoom in more. You can also move the view with the D-button when holding the other button down.

Not to hijack your thread or anything. Is that possible in the 300D-Rebel?

was just going to post a thread about it, until i noticed this one. Woulda been kind of dumb to have two threads about it.

EDIT: nevermind.... Was wondering if there was like a "live" zooming in the lcd screen for checking the focus before taking a picture.. Just realised, that i'm talking about a DSLR.. Bleh... Need to get that sleep some time

You can zoom in quite far, but it seems like it's being interpolated, it's not a true representation of that resolution.

Back to the D70. You can zoom all the way in on camera but it still will not tell you if the shot is in focus. I have had many look pretty sharp on the camera LCD and still be soft at full resolution. the LCD is just not high enough resolution to tell for sure but it does give you a quick check for really out of focus shots.

There aren't enough pixels on the LCD to really tell if the picture is crisp or not... you kinda have to know what a sharp photo looks like to judge on the lcd.

Suggestion A:

I like your idea kyebosh. To take it a little further, you might load 2 pictures(picture A and picture B) of a identical subject from your computer to your camera. Picture A is crisp. Picture B is the identical subject, resolution, ect., with the exception that it is not crisp. (how you make the picture not crisp is up to you, possibly blur a crisp picture in photoshop) Then zoom in on the camera and compare each picture in identical locations on the photograph. While fairly subjective, this will allow you to compare the difference in crispness of the two pictures on your D70 with the difference in crispness of the two pictures on your 20.1" monitor and provide a way to compare the crispness of future D70 pictures to the base crispness that we established by comparing the near identical pictures on the D70.

Suggestion B:

Could there be a problem with your monitor? Try viewing the pictures on other CRT's and LCD's and compare to your monitor.

Thanks for the ideas. It helps.
