I'd love to see a feature by which we can select a past challenge, and watch a slide show of the photos. For example, I wanted to go back and look at Leading Lines 1 to see what had been entered. Rather than all that clicking to see photo after photo, I'd love to be able to sit back in my chair and watch them in a slide show. Hopefully, I'd get to pick the order, or by default, the order would be highest scoring to lowest.
I guess we'd need to be able to set a duration as well; we could do that in our preferences as a default, if that makes it any easier to program for you! |

What a great idea!! It does does get kinda cumbersome clicking on all those photos, especially when the site is moving kinda slow.

Perhaps another way could be done.
Being on broadband, I find it easier to look at a challenge after it's done, by clicking on the Show Full Results and loading the whole challenge on one page. Instead of clicking each image, opening in the same window, I right click and open in it's own window, making it much quicker to just close that one instead of going back each time. (I do this in voting too)
Perhaps a javascript mouseover to view a larger version of the image only could be implemented?
Just a thought anyway. |

That's a good idea too. But I don't understand the concern for bandwidth from the site--it would take just as much bandwidth from the site if I did the mouseover as a timed display. If you really want to save bandwidth, then get rid of the update button. I wonder how many times it gets pressed from 12:00 am to 1:00 am EST on a challenge day. On any day?
I'd say any amount of bandwidth is worth it to make the VIEWING of photos on the site easier and more enjoyable. That's what it's about. Too many threads are "write-only", meaning more people submitting pictures than taking the time to view them!
If it's a bandwidth issue, you would simply have to set a MAXIMUM speed--even one picture every 30 seconds--that's slower than I can click, but I'd still prefer it, because I could set it running on one monitor, and continue to work on the other while enjoying the show as it changed! But I bet even every 10 seconds wouldn't overflow the site bandwidth, because not that many people would be doing it, and not that many at the same time.

Yet another idea I would LOVE to see would be the ability to browse previous challenges in the same way that you can browse through current challenge images that you haven't voted on yet - just clicking on the >> sign to go to the next full page showing. This would really be useful to me. It would also be useful in reviewing images that I have voted on in the current challenge. |
