I am trying to figure out the relation, difference, algorithm, and pros and cons of the difference between the focal length in point and shoot cameras and DSLR cameras i know it has something to do with the distance between the lens and the ccd but thats all i know i cant fiugre it out thanks

It's got a lot more to do with the SIZE of the sensor. Bigger sensor, basically, better quality and more creative control. Bigger sensor, more expensive, and typically only found in DSLRs.

That's a highly simplified version.
