In my opinion there isn't a lot to look at for newsprint. They want something that grabs the attention. You've got a small fire with lots of firefighters. If you had either more fire, or more focus on the firefighters I think it might fare better.

Edit: If you could switch it to landscape and move the focus to the right a little that might work.

It depends what quality paper it is, I never imagined my pictures would find there way into a newspapers, but I have been printed a number of times in a local paper.

did you write the story to go along with it? Is there a story to go along with it? Thats are more important question than "is this a good picture..."

...if you do submit however...the worse that can happen is that they dont print it...

True, it does depend on the paper. I've had a couple of pictures printed in a local paper (and they weren't that great either).

I think maxj has a point about the story aspect. Also I'd like to see a cutline (caption) for the image.
