Hi! I was wondering if applying a warming (orange) filter to the overall image in Photoshop is allowed in a Basic Editing Challenge? I have read the rules several times, and I see no mention of color filters.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

As long as it's applied to the whole image, i see no problem.

I thought you couldn't. According to this, it says no:

Filters: The use of filters (or non-Photoshop equivalent) is strictly limited. Any filter or stand-alone utility designed and used to preserve the integrity of the image and/or reduce the effects of noise, scratches, etc, are permitted. These include but are not limited to the Sharpen, Unsharp Mask, and Dust & Scratches filters, and standalone image cleanup utilities such as NeatImage. However, no effects filters may be applied to your image, with the exception of Noise and Gaussian Blur, which are allowed. Any filter permitted by this rule must be applied uniformly to the entire image. Selective application of any filter is prohibited.

Although it is unclear. I wondered this axact thing last night when I installed Opanda Photofilter.

Well you can use curves and selective color as long as its to the whole image, I would assume this is the same.

Layers: Only Adjustment Layers (or the non-Photoshop equivalent) may be used. An Adjustment Layer is one that does not contain any pixel data, but rather is a special, non-image layer that lets you experiment with color and tonal adjustments to an image without permanently modifying the pixels. Adjustment Layers must be applied in Normal mode. All other types of layers (including those that contain pixel data or masks) and all other blending methods (modes) are prohibited. Changing the opacity of an Adjustment Layer is permitted.

Okay....soooooo....I'm still confused here. Two responses with two different answers. Is a warming (orange) filter an effect filter?

I'd love to post my image, but I really don't want to get disqualified on my first post.

If I had attached an orange filter to the end of my lens, I would have achieved the same result as what I applied to the image in photoshop...SO, would using the physical orange filter on the camera lens be grounds for disqualification.

Could someone please clarify???? Thanks so much in advance!

No its not a filter, its an adjustment layer and therefore it is ok. Also any adjustment done in camera is ok.

In PS CS2 it is listed under the Image/Adjustment menu. Although it is listed under Filters In PS Elements 3. More confused?
