Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

I had a beautiful picture for the metal challenge all sorted, then remembered that it was Basic editing only doh!
I still want the same picture, but, there are a few spots on the black backgound that I want to get rid of.
Can anyone help this numpty and give me some advice on how to do that with Basic editing?

Can you set the black point in levels to the lightest of the offending spots without ruining the exposure on the rest of the picture?

I would try adjust contrast or levels and watch to see if I could get the spots to go away, but hey, I'm also a numpty.

Can I use this as my new sig? "Quick Fingers KaDi"...has a ring to it don't you think?

(I can't say I type for a living, but it is a huge part of my workday sometimes. Somewhere in the range of 60 - 80 words per minute, I think.)

Thanks Quick Fingers KaDi!! Well I think it's a pretty picture! Anything's gotta be better than my first couple of tries lol and it was fun taking it, which is most important.
