I am getting addicted to Starbucks latte's, but at $4 a pop I may have to give up all other intake of food and beverage.

I have seen a Black and Decker home cappucino machine at walmart for under $40...anyone use it and how does it work?

I worked at a restaurant and have made these drinks on one of those big pro machines that cost way too much for home use - besides teh B&D version, are there any other affordable solutions?

Where does one buy espresso beans, or will regular beans ground espresso fine, work?

i got one from bed bath and beyond as a wedding present, I love it saves me a TON of money. But i have not yet been able to produce the same taste I get from starbucks. I think they put a little crack in the coffee beens or something

mine looks sorta like this one, only very top handle on mine is different, maybe this is the new model

Krups Espresso maker

edit: also get you one of those stainless steel frothing cups, get a small one or you wont be able to steam your milk. And get a food type thermometer (or beverage one) like they use at starbucks.

I heat my milk in the microwave for about 2 minutes before I steam it, it saves a LOT of time as it can take a while to heat up 40* milk to 140* or 160*

Gloria Jeans does great coffee, all kinds of flavours. The best coffee IMHO comes from freshly ground beans, so get yourself a grinder. Good coffee shops will grind for you too.

A french friend of mine told me that those stove top espresso kettle/jug things make the best espresso, or latte. They're pretty cheap too.
googled this to show you what I mean: espresso kettle thing

And if you really want Capuccino, you need to use full fat milk. Semi- will do, skimmed is nearly impossible to froth.

You're best to stay away from the steam powered machines. They don't froth the milk very well at all. Pump driven is the next step up and they do the coffee and steamed milk/foam very well.

I have a Krupps model that I've had for years and it's still going strong.

I use skim milk and it froths very well. Using a 2 cup glass measuring cup and 2/3 of a cup of milk I get it full to the top with froth.

Yeah, I second this! Use it all the time (I have a range of differently sized cans for different number of cups), and it works great. Full fat milk works best, just make sure not to cook it but only warm it to the point of almost boiling.
