i went to stoney mountain lake monday and got some photos of lizards (one blue heron).the lizards played infront of me for a good hour while i was snapping away. these are the ones i think are the best of the bunch. i would love to know what DPC'ers think of them honestly. its the first 7 photos of the link below. like I've said before..if u think they are garbage tell me...also tell me what i could try to do next time to make them better. I promise...no hard feelings will come from giving ur honest opinon!
thanks a bunch!~~Cher~~
edit to add: for the ones who have been here b4 please post ur lizard photos here too. i would love to see ur lizards too but please let us all know where u were when u took the photo and what they are(for the ones who dont know what they are looking at)

I like #1 and #5 the best for the lizard shots. The coloring in the rock (reddish brown) is cool in #1. #5 is going to need some serious post-processing to adjust the exposure a bit, but I like the two of them (lizards) in the same composition. Many of them are close to the hot side on exposure in my opinion.
Bet you had fun though! The blue tail lizards are juveniles. We have a bunch of them around here and when they mature the blue fades away.
Take care!
Barry

i wish they were big enough to submit. its only a 3mp camera and the size was set to 640x480 (i think). i now take all my photos at 1600x1200 incase i want to submit for print acceptance. trhanks for the compliment.

I was inspired by you to capture a couple lizard images myself.
Well... OK... maybe they actually are just two previously unprocessed images of two lizards I took pictures of earlier in the Spring up by Sedona, Arizona USA:

Not as dramatic as some of the others in this thread. I caught this one sunning himself on a big rock one warm day about a month ago. I'd appreciate it if anyone could identify him for me.

Nice lizard shots!!!
I see lizards all the time in the desert but the little buggers are so lightning fast I normally can't get close enough to get a decent picture.
The only time I can get them to sit still is when I have my bikini clad lizard centerfold handy.

Peter... yours and the others posted here are super cool images. Notice you got your down by Tucson. Your portfoloio does not look like it, but do you spend much time in Arizona?

Thanks smilebig, that was just the clue I needed. I searched on google images and made a positive ID. He's a Broadhead Skink.

Thanks Steve. I live in the Northeast (CT) but have a family member in Tucson so I get out there once or twice a year. Definitely a nice change of scenery (and at times, climate). This photo was taken on a 7 mile hike into the desert to a natural spring. |

There are some truly spectacular shots in this thread. I have no idea what kind he is, but he was truly skittish... after trying to get close with every other lens in my bag, it was time to pull out big daddy and 400mm finally got the shot.

This shot you took is pretty cool. It's hard to get a great shot of these little critters as they can move quite fast!!! Excellent shot!
