One of Nik's plug ins (Nik Color Effex I think) has a Polarizer in it. Unfortunately it is impossible to simulate the reflection decreasing properties of the polarizing filter, but you do not really need a plug in to simulate its colour saturation effect. You just use Hue/Saturation adjustment layer in Photoshop. The method involves changing the hue, increasing the saturation and darkness of the blues, on the one hand, and selectively boosting the saturation of other colours. I have a book at home on the digital special effects. When I come home, I'll dig it out and post the reference.
Another solution is non-digital - you know, a couple of months ago Cokin re-released its "A" mount to fit all brands of digital cameras that do not have the thread. It screws into the tripod hole at the bottom of the camera and ends up in front of the camera. Although the Cokin mount is square, the slot nearest to the lens is slightly wider and takes circular Cokin filters such as polarizer and star filter. These are specially designed to go with Cokin system and cost more than standard screw-on ones. |
