Forgive me if this is a repeated question. I have the capability of taking multi shots with my Mavica 73. Problem is,I do not know how to get it to play frame by frame on my computer, like it does on the camera. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? Thanks for your help.

When I take a shot,say of a hummingbird in flight, I set the camera in multi record mode. I then click the button and it takes 6 stills right in a row, then when I play it back, it plays all 6 stills in a row, (like when you have a book of action stills and you flip through it fast, it appears as if there is animation) on the camera. But it only comes up as 1 picture (with 6 shots in a row) and there is no animation when I try to recover it from the floppy and play it on my computer.

Is it recorded in one file or several?

This seems to be something special the camera does to allow you to view it the way you describe.
Software that came with the camera may allow you to view it in the same way.

Well, the camera is obviously dated, it didn't come with any software that I remember, but maybe I will have to look around tonight. Thanks for the help though. |

When you copy the shot to your computer, what type of file is it? JPG, GIF, other?? |

It says for the properties on th floppy that it is a JPG. I presume they are downloaded to the computer as such as well.

You can make it an animated gif:)
There! Just needed to replace the .jpg with .gif for the thumb to work:)

If the shots are recorded on the floppy as jpg, my guess is that the camera is simply playing them back in rapid succession. I know of no way to animate a JPG image, certainly not like an animated GIF file where all the image info is contained in a single compute file. |

I agree, I have tried to save it as a bunch of things other than jpg with the same result, I bring it up and it is one frame with 6 pics in it. I believe there is a prog that will enable you to convert files in one way or another, but it has been a long time since I used /saw it and can't remember what it is. Thanks to all who tried to help. I am going to try to find the manual and see if that will enlighten me. |

check out page 23-GB in your manual, MULTI here is a web link to its manual in PDF format:
//docs.sony.com/release/MVCFD73.pdf
looks like it shows them in rapid mode only if you have a certain function set on the camera, on the computer they are only as one at a time. Get an animation maker (paint shop pro has one) and you can add each image into it and make an animated gif from it.

My F828 does the same thing. I believe on this one that you need the cruddy Sony program to actually see the animation, but I decided it wasn't worth installing the program, because I don't use that feature anyway. I could be wrong because it's a while since I've played with this. |

I looked in the manual and sadly it states that the multi function is one jpg file and cannot be played on other devices. Man that sucks.
I agree that stop drop and roll does not work in hell, that made me laugh, thanks, I needed it.
My troubles may be over soon with the Sony as I am going to be going back to 35mm,my Pentax has reach the end I believe,so I'll be selling that and looking into a Minolta Maxxum. Can't wait that has a shutter speed of 1/4000 I think, look out Humming birds! |
