I was wondering if anyone here has toyed with any underwater housings. I'm currently looking at a Ewa-marine D-AX for my 828, has anyone played with one of these. Largely, I want to go out in the rain without worrying about it getting wet, don't mind the idea of taking beach or surf photos from a bit closer than the dry sand!

If you're not diving with the kit, I reckon anything that has decent o-ring seals should keep water out. Make sure the o-rings are well greased and properly placed. Nothing worse than closing a housing unit and realizing too late that there's a leak.

Insurance policies, if not too expensive, would be a good bet as well, just in case.

I've seen 'bump' so many times on these forums...what does it mean? or am I being dumb?

It's to "bump" it to the top of the forum so more people will see the post.

The Ewa-marine cases are ok for exposure to things like rain, I used one during Hurricane Jeanne last year to take pictures down here on St Thomas. I wouldn't take my camera underwater with one though...

I've got an Olympus 8080 and underwater inclosure for sale though if you want... ;-) Price is lowered to $700 for the set, + shipping USPS.

Nice, but then I'll never afford my own 10D.

i have under water housing for my G5, they are really cool however rain gets on the lens and its difficult to focus sometimes, but underwater they work mazing, iklite has the best ones, high quality build, im not sure if they make them for sony cameras though

To add to the O-ring bit. Look for hairs before you close it up. I have read a bunch of stories about not spotting a hair across the O-ring and the camera floods. Doesn't sound good does it. I would like to take more underwater. But, for me. I would only do it with my point and shoot or back-up. I get nervous just thinking about it. They are no replacement for a digital. But, I have had ok results with disposables. I can handle $9.99 if it does not survive. Just my 2 pennies.

Yeah. The disposable sounds preferable. Don't want to wreck my camera, maybe find one for the old P3.
