Hi All,

Just wanted to post a few of my first photos with my new Rebel XT! Thanks everyone from my prior threads - your input has sure helped me use my first SLR!! I got the kit and figured I will practice for a while with the kit lens before I buy another one. I do love this camera! I know the photos aren't the greatest technically, but am having fun for now. Also, need to use a tripod for the next batch as I think I have wicked camera shake when I try to take a handheld shot. Anyway, here they are! (feel free to comment if you like) It's gonna be hard to put this camera down:)

Hey,
they look pretty good to me.
Congrats on your purchase.
One thing about the kit lens is that it performs optimally at about f8-16 or so. Many expect it to be sharp at the widest aperatures in the corners and get upset when it's soft. When I use mine, I always try to keep it at that aperature, light permitting, to optimaize my image.

Yeah - I'm guessing with such a tiny camera and the small kit lens your camera shake can't be that bad, my hands aren't particularly steady and I don't have much of a problem with a similar sized kit... The images do look a little soft, but a) the kit lens probably isn't the sharpest and b) the in camera sharpening is fairly low on most dslr's at the default setting. The softness will be exaggerated further when you re-size to post somewhere like dpc.

Good luck with the camera, my guess is you'll love those eight megapixels of fun.

Congrats on your camera! I just bought my Rebel XT on thursday and I´m loving it. The size doesn´t bother me at all, as many say it´s too small. And when I have the 50 f1,8 on it I can just put it in my pocket!
That way I take it with me and fulfill the basic rule of photography.

What lens do you have? I got mine on release day with the 18-55mm
and went for the Tamron 70-300MM F/4-5.6 and love having the longer
reach. Here are some shots I took a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing your photos - they're awesome shots!!! How exciting to see what this camera can do with a different lens (I'm using the kit lens for now).

I also like the size of this camera, it is easy to hold and nice and light!

that's something i keep in mind when using my sigma 18-125. It's peforms a lot better at F8! same deal as the 18-55. The appertures are the same and stuff!
But i'll be dfinately moving out of this lens! they are good overall, but I can live with the fact that'll have to carry some more stuff on my bag, instead of the lens kit, or the sigma (which doesn't come out of the cam)

With 70-300, If I zoom to 200mm and more...I gets soft images with Aperature wide open. I usually close it down to an F11 for long zoom shots.
