in my opinion, you should get a flash and forget any lenses for now. (unless you can afford both)
Learning to use a flash is very useful, and can just plain old give much better results than using only natural light. You can seperate subjects from the background easier, (i know low f stops produce more bokeh, but underexposed b/g often looks better). Using light is a very important part of shooting I would say, and getting a flash is part of that.
Don't get too caught up in the product range of things. Just get a flash, with a guide number of at least around 100 feet. It'll be generally useful, then learn to use it and its settings. Use it off camera via sync cord for different effects. You camera is digital, you can see the effects as you are creating them.

Do you mind if I try your idea with my camera..Awesome technique!

ALl of my shot when I first started here at dpc I probably used flash...
I got so many comments about the flash so now I to never use flash but when I do I look for things to reflect, set the flash on fill, or the flash low, and white balance is set....

In this picture for example I had a little to much flash and no back light or anything reflecting perhaps because my black back ground is not a good reflector at all...Hope to help in your decisions...

Congratulations on your new camera..
