My girlfriend bought me this lens a couple of days ago for my birthday.
I know nothing about it.
Can anyone tell me good things about it?
Please.

it's a really bad lens, you must send it to me now so you won't suffer anymore from having it...

but really.. it's a really good macro lens, and if you get the lifesize converter then you'll have a great set :) |

Very nice lens :) Good for macro and good for all-round photography. Only problem is that it's not USM so focussing can be a little slow.

For portraits, the $80 50 F1.8 is better because it is a stop faster, but it can't do macros whatsoever, minimum focus is about 18 inches..
Edit: So it's better that it can do macros, and is at least as sharp as the F1.8.

I use a Canon 100mm f2.8 macro.
These Canon Macro lenses are great.
The 100 is the best, you can use it for a portrait lens also.

Debatably the BEST canon 50mm lens! Sharper than he 1.8 for sure, decently fast, less distortion, better build quality, better bokeh quality, closer focus... Just not as good as low light as the others.

on his 1.6x body you can use the 50mm just fine for portraits too!
