Hey Everybody! I'm having so much fun!

I joined DPChallenge late November last year so I've come into the floral season without prior knowledge of the so-called flower disdain that is prevelant in some corners of DPC.

Not knowing this I happened to enter some floral pics in a couple of recent challenges. After all, I thought the subject was nice to look at, etc... so why not? ;^)

I'm also happy to say my recent camera upgrade has been going well. Went from a Z2 to a Z3 (wanted the IS and longer zoom).

Here's what happened:

My 3rd highest scoring challenge entry - for 'Beauty' at 6.210

My 4th highest scoring challenge entry - for 'Lighting' at 6.202

I'm SO happy with these results. To all those who have a dislike for flowers you should try it sometime! Thanks for the many fine comments on both of these entries.

edit - who, not you...

I'm so good at killing threads, I killed my own before it even got started! ;^)

I voted in both challenges Barry, and am glad (relieved?) to be able to report that I scored your shots 7 in the BEAUTY challenge and 8 in the LIGHTING challenge. There, now it is me who killed your thread :0)

Yep you killed it all right. ;^) Subliminal bump for night crowd?

nice, but on the first pic, but what is the centerpiece of the pic? seems sort of scattered, like what is the viewer supposed to focus his/her attention on? the second picture isolates the subject. overall very nice flower shots. hope i dont kill this thread

Hi - I heard that comment a couple of times on the Beauty (wht flower) image also. Good point. I was worried about cropping it too tight so I went with one full flower positioned in a rule of thirds area - at least I had hoped that would be the best approach.

hmm if you go for the thirds, you should probably push the other flowers out of the picture

You really think so? I thought I had it pretty close with the center of the main flower positioned in the top right third axis. Take a shot at it if you care to, won't hurt my feelings any. ;^) I am heading to bed here in a minute or two...I'll catch up with ya tomorrow.

I like flowers, but alot of the time it's the same old shot. Thinking out of the box with a flower, now lets see that.

I haven't looked up how I voted on your stuff, but they are nice pix.

Hi Amy. ;^) You're right, you did, and THANK YOU! In fact, I think I even used your comment in the 'best comment ever rec'd' thread.

Smile, and have a great day!

swinging - so true, so true... (re: the same old shot), but the darn things just look SO good sometimes when you walk past them it's hard NOT to shoot. ;^)

As for 'out of the box' - that's the only way I can find them around here. I looked for a dozen roses IN a box for my wife recently and the florists' looked at me like I was nuts! ;^)

Thanks for the fun comments. Take care!

Ok - The last two posts were not a shameless attempt to bump this thread. I just wanted to reply since they were up in the wee hours of the night while I was happily tucked away in bed. ;^)

Alright, so maybe THIS post is a shameless bump. He-he. Hmmm...maybe I should take it back. Uh-oh, now I'm talking to myself...must be the coffee or lack thereof...
