This was my entry for beautiful. I took this photo on the sunday morning and then realized that night that I could hurry up and submit it to the "Beautiful" challenge.

The next morning, after looking at my photo with fresh 'next day' eyes I came to realize that the crop was too loose. A few commenters said the same.

Is this better?

I'd like to make a print of this and thought I'd collect opinions first.

Any other things I could do to improve this before I finalize it?

Edit: I see the quality got screwed up on the second one (I'm at work and don't have the originals) so please evaluate the crop on the second one and the toning, etc. on the first one...

It's still a bit tight for my taste, but an over all nice shot.

What do you mean, "still a bit tight"...the top photo is the original, the bottom is the tighter crop...do you mean that I cropped too much or still haven't cropped enough?

And is anybody else reading this thread? Wow, what do I need to do to get some responses around here?

I didn't vote on this challenge but I like the second one better. The crop on the first is just too much foreground.

Second crop is indeed much better.

At least I responded

Your 2nd crop is better. Good Light vs. Dark / Top vs. Bottom.

That being said, imo, The whole bottom half of the original isn't adding much ( of interest to me ) to the photo. I think a panorama format of the top half would be nice.

Everybody has thier own thoughts, and you should choose what it is that you like best, and then put that on your wall. Often times there are many good ways to crop.

Note: I'm just stating my opinion, you may want to get a couple more.

I agree, I like the second one better. If you're still planning to make a print out of it, I'd take even a little bit more off of the bottom to get the Aspect Ratio (now at about 1.46) all the way up to 1.5:1 so you can get the exact print sizes.

EDIT: One other thing you might want to try, depending on how big your original file is, is to crop it even more on the top and the bottom to make it a panorama (2:1), like this

I agree with the two comments ahead of me. While the second one is better, I would push it a little further and crop even more. If the shadow were more highly visible, I probably wouldn't crop much - but since it's hardly noticeable (at least on my monitor), there's not much interest there.

Okay, on my monitor the shadow is very visible...maybe that's part of the problem. I think the shadow is a very important part of the image.

Thanks for your help, everyone!
