I've been looking into macro lenses recently and after being inspired today, and also finding a cheap price on FM today I bought one. Spent about $350 on a used Canon EF 100 Macro (non-USM). I hear it's fabulously sharp. I'm pretty excited!

| $350 for non-USM used lens doesn't sound that cheap to me... You can get a new sigma 105mm for that price. the only difference I have heard about sigma is that its slow, but canon without USM wil also be slow ? |

This lens is debatably sharper than the sigma, and probably comperable AF. I simply cannot afford the new version and this is slightly cheaper than the sigma was also.

You may want to look at the current issue of Practical Photography. They rate the Canon 100 Macro as the best lens.

I thought they had similar ratings for sharpness. I do have the canon 100mm USM version and I love it. When I was looking for a macro, I read sigma and canon are comparable in sharpness, but canon is faster and is better suited for portraits and I bought it.
I am sure we will see some nice macros from you soon :) |

i heard the 100 ef macro is (slightly) sharper than the 70-200 series
