When you run through the DPReview comparison, they look functionally very similar. As Shannon stated though, they are truly in different leagues. One hint of this is the fast lens on the G6.
All depends what your needs are. If compactness is a prime concern then also consider the Canon SD-520, which is the replacement for the A95. The body is thinner and slightly smaller in width and height, and the zoom range is expanded a little. Only disadvantage is that it takes XD cards, not CF, so you can't reuse your current cards. That may not be an issue, you'll prolly need bigger cards anyhow, so buying XD vs. CF is maybe a moot point. I just bought the 520 for my daughter, over the A95, despite the fact that all our other cameras are CF.
