Howdy folks,

I bought a Rebel XT about three weeks ago, during which time I have started moving from JPEG to RAW. I've used both recording modes on my camera without a problem.

Strangely, there is no longer a RAW recording option in the Quality menu. There are only six options: L, M, S each in two different compression levels. Does anyone have any idea what happened? The RAW option is simply gone.

A detail that may have more importance than I'd like it to: this strange thing happened immediately following letting a friend handle the camera. I was on the phone and did not see what he did, but when he handed it back to me, he had taken one picture in high-res JPEG, when I had previously set the camera to RAW. And the next time I went to the Quality menu, RAW was gone.

I am hoping that there is some simple issue here that I can easily resolve. I formatted the CF card (haven't changed cards, as I only have one) to no effect. Could the firmware have been changed or damaged somehow? I have no idea what could have happened...

Help!

Thanks,
Damon

Turn your camera to some setting other than Auto (the green square on the top dial), and RAW will magically reappear as an option. ;-)

I didn't even consider that option.. AUTO is something that shouldn't be on an SLR camera.. my 20D has never been humiliated by using AUTO :)

Heh, yeah. Once I figured that out, I was going to come back here and announce that I'd found a too-obvious answer to my question... but you were too quick >_<

What a silly thing! Thanks for the response. I didn't even think to check the settings dial, because I never even look at it myself...
